In a testament to the environmental stewardship of the Hasentree development team, the club was named a Certified Gold Audubon International Signature Sanctuary even before the opening of the golf course in October 2007 – one of just five communities in North Carolina so honored by the prestigious program.
“If you went around and added up all the acres of land there is between where golf is played and housing there are a lot of acres,” architect Tom Fazio said. “So it is a very generous setback and a very generous planning program that give the quality – and is just another special feature of Hasentree and what it’s all about. It’s all about a green environment; it’s about a wonderful place to live as well as a wonderful place to play golf.”
The ability to see the length of three entire holes from the clubhouse, surrounded by dense forest and the club’s golf villas, is a special feature not seen at many courses.
“This was a two-year process of molding and massaging the land over time,” added Fazio. “We filled it up with green space and it became a great, great setting.”
